Great running project.
Smog exempt. I bought the car at (1)45,840 miles about a year ago. (The odometer only has 5 digits). An elderly woman used to drive the car but she passed away and her husband sold the car as he was getting sick. The car was purchased in Glendora, CA and has the original CA plates. Current mileage is (1)47,298+ (it’s 48 years old, so average mileage is 3,000+ a year). Mileage is subject to increase a little. I believe this is a September 1974 production hence, it had the bigger chrome bumpers. See pictures. Car currently is sprayed with white plasti-dip on on aftermarket front and rear bumpers and can easily be peeled off to reveal last owner’s paint preference of biege/brown. This vehicle was imported to the US and first year for Zs to offer 2+2 (or rear seats). It was a transition from the 240Z to 280Z. It uses mostly 240Z parts. I believe there were only 3000 to 5000 260Zs imported in the US for 18 months (1973-1975). Unfortunately, I was unable to find information about how many were 2+2 models. Parts are easily found online.
– All four tires were replaced last year when the vehicle was purchased
– K&N air filter (original air filter included)
– All six spark plugs were replaced
– Brake cables replaced.
– Front brake calipers and brake pads replaced (It’s new with less than 2,000 miles on it. It starts to squeak a little after 30 minutes of driving but doesn’t affect the brakes – original calipers will be included, didn’t have time to rebuild it)
– Valve Cover Gasket replaced.
– Added Power windows (The original window crank handles included) (Extra motors included)
– Added Power lock
– Added Alarm
– Battery manual cut off switches
– Added an additional 6 switch circuit panel that only turns on when the car turns on
– Plastic dash cover was installed (the original dash is cracked underneath but the plastic dash cover looks like a factory dash)
– Sewed on steering wheel cover (can be removed easily if you don’t like it)
– Infotainment system with back up camera (It’s not perfectly installed and held with zip ties because I didn’t want to cut or modify the original center console. The original stereo is included)
– White plasti-dip over previous owners paint job. (Original car color in 1974 was silver based on color code sticker on the car; the previous owner painted it two tone beige and brown – See pictures)
– MSA Front bumper and rear bumper installed. (Original chrome bumpers will be included.)
– Solar trickle charger installed (I don’t drive the car often so to make sure the battery doesn’t die out. – Car was garaged until it received a coat of plasti-dip)
– LED headlights were installed (original headlights will be included, the passenger side of the white LED daylight stopped working and haven’t had the time to check it but all other lights, low beam, high beam, yellow/amber lights work)
– Front tie Rods and ball joints were replaced with alignment
– “Stealth” windshield mounted dashcam
– Extra parts included that was on my to do list – rear shocks and shock stops; wheel bearings (I thought I might need it but bearing were good); Gasket set (except for the valve cover gasket already installed); low temp thermostat; three K&N oil filters; Lucas Hot Rod High Zinc motor oil 5 fl oz; extra ball joints; all the original emblems and side molding trims are included; extra lug nuts; The original wire caps show in the past biege/brown photos are included, the missing dusk cap on the first photo is included; The side mirrors that came with the car will be included.
I had plans to strip and paint the car; add electric power steering; upgrade the battery and radiator; swap the engine and transmission (LS with manual or RB/SRDET with manual) if and when the engine dies, but the original 2.6 liters (L26) engine with the 3 speed jatco transmission on carburetors are running strong and keeps up with speedsters. This was a resto-mod project but until the engine is swapped I did not want to make anything permanent in case I wanted to turn it back to it’s original glory.
I have plans to move out of State. Shipping all the cars didn’t seem economical so trying to see if I can sell this one.
It’s in no way a perfect car yet. There is a slight shake on the handle between 50-60 miles per hour. Need to replace the bushings. All four shocks need to be replaced (I have the two rear shocks which are included). I didn’t get a chance to order the front shocks yet. The car occasionally needs to be put on neutral to start. Needs a transmission mount. There was a small spot size of a quarter of surface rust on the driver’s side wheel fender. It was scrapped with an aluminum brush, treated, and added a thin layer of bondo for plasti-dip. There was a small rust hole size of a nickel in the driver’s side quarter panel (rocker panel end) that I found after I bought the car. It was cleaned, treated temporarily, and layer of bondo for plasti-dip. No other signs of rust found on the car.
Registration is good until October 2023.
Not in a rush. Don’t need help selling the car. In an attempt to prevent scammers, only selling to the person that will go on title with state/government issued photo ID. I am not going to give you a blank signed title for liability reasons. If sale is done online (out of state), until funds are received cleared without any temporary hold or a few days after the funds are received from the buyer’s personal account, none of the paperwork or car will be released. Upon confirmation that funds are good and after you have valid paperwork done, you can make arrangements to have an auto shipping company pick up and drop off the car to you (or have it towed to you) at your expense or pick up the car and drive it off.
