1974 Datsun 260Z- early model, all 240Z parts are compatible.
The Good: Mechanically the car is solid. The rear breaks have been converted to disk so it stops better than it did with the drums. I had a new windshield and trim installed. I installed a new rotor cap as well as new spark plugs and wires. The bushings are all new and the car is lowered. It is rigid and runs very well. The clutch and trans work very well as does the motor. The unibody frame is solid. The car has AE86 vintage race wheels and newer low profile performance tires.
The Bad: The car is 60 years old so manual steering and breaking. The previous owner welded the rear diff to achieve cheap Posi traction. The A/C was removed to save weight as well as the heater core and fan. There are no temperature controls in the car. The speedometer cable is broken, so no speedometer. This is a relatively inexpensive fix.
The Ugly: There is rust in the wheel wells and rockers which has filler. The emblems and side markers have been removed and filled. The rear bumper indents were filled, but I removed the filler due to popping and allowing rust to occur. The windows were removed from the doors but are included with the car. Additionally, the door panels were removed likely due to degradation. These are relatively easy to replace as the aftermarket production for these cars is quite extensive. The exterior panels are damaged by wear, rust or poor body work.
If you do not have any desire or do not get any enjoyment from mechanic work and trouble solving, this is not the vehicle for you. If you enjoy loud exhaust, the smell of gas and exhaust and greasy knuckles while banging gears and squeezing every ounce of the 98 horsepower from this vintage high revving straight 6 while kids stop on the side of the road to take pictures of your car, this may be one of the most fun buckets you can own.
Please keep in mind, if the car were perfect, it would be listed for $30k-$40k. I know what I have and am not going to part with it for less than it is worth. This car is fun as hell to own and drive.
If this post is still up, the car is still available. The first person to arrive with cash in hand will drive this vintage classic home.
Local cash sale only. Scammers don’t bother.
